The powerful film, Martha, Jac a Sianco, already a six-times BAFTA award-winner, is one of 12 S4C programmes to receive nominations for prizes at this year’s Celtic Media Festival, to be held in Newry, Northern Ireland, in April.
The film, based on Caryl Lewis’ award-winning novel about family inheritance and heartbreak, made by Apollo, part of the Boomerang Group, has been nominated in the Feature Length Drama category.
The documentary, Carwyn, a production by Green Bay Media on the life of rugby legend Carwyn James, and a programme in the series O Flaen Dy Lygaid about the controversial 1974 Lions rugby tour of South Africa, made by BBC Cymru, have both been nominated in the Sports category.
Y 7 Magnifico a Matthew Rhys took seven Welsh celebrities, including the Brothers and Sisters star, to try out life as cowboys on a working ranch in Arizona. The two-part series, made by Boomerang, has been shortlisted in the Factual Entertainment Category.
The soprano from Swansea, Elin Manahan Thomas traced the story of the influential Austrian composer, Joseph Haydn, in Papa Haydn, made by P.O.P.1 for S4C, and nominated in the Arts category.
The documentary Dad a Fi is a young woman’s story of her father’s fight against cancer. A production by Fiction Factory, it has been nominated in the Factual Single category.
Two of S4C’s programmes have been shortlisted in the Entertainment category – Sioe Dolig PC Leslie Wynne, a spoof chat show presented fronted by comedian, Tudur Owen, produced by Boomerang, and the choral competition series, Côr Cymru 2009, made by Rondo.
Trip yr Ysgol Gymraeg took rugby star, Nicky Robinson around Wales tracing the history of Welsh medium education. The programme, made by ITV Cymru, has been nominated in the Education category.
A programme in the Y Byd ar Bedwar series on the Middle East hotspot of Gaza has been shortlisted in the Current Affairs category. The series is made for S4C by ITV Cymru.
Igam Ogam is an animation series for children made by Calon. It has received a nomination in the Animation category. S4C’s rock and pop series Bandit, made by Boomerang, has been shortlisted in the Young People category.

The list is a reflection of the variety and the high standard of programming offered on the channel.
