S4C has a dream package of live rugby this weekend, with four big matches being broadcast on the oval-loving Channel on Saturday and Sunday, 14 and 15 April.
The festival of sizzling live rugby on S4C’s flagship rugby programme Y Clwb Rygbi includes both semi-finals in the Konica Minolta Welsh Cup, a Magners League clash and the final of the Anglo-Welsh EDF Energy Cup from Twickenham.
All four matches will be available on all analogue and digital platforms in Wales and on Sky channel 135 in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, with English subtitles available.
Saturday’s Y Clwb Rygbi fest includes the best-of-the-west clash between Llandovery and Llanelli from the Talbot Athletic Ground, Aberavon (from 6.05pm) in the first of two Welsh Cup clashes featuring Principality premiership sides, with a place in the final at the Millennium Stadium on 28 April at stake.
Before this match at 4.00pm, Y Clwb Rygbi cameras are at Cardiff’s Arms Park for an important Magners league match between the Blues and Edinburgh.
Sunday, 15 April sees another fantastic double, with the cameras both at Twickenham and Satdis Road, Pontypridd.
It’s the big East Wales meeting between Cardiff and Bridgend at ‘The House of Pain’, with the capital side starting as slight favourites in the second Konica Minolta Cup semi-final. But remember to tune in at two too as the Ospreys aim to tame the Leicester Tigers in the Anglo-Welsh EDF Energy final at Twickenham.
S4C’s Director of Commissioning Rhian Gibson said, “We are delighted to be able to show four live matches this weekend, at both Regional and Club level. The passion and tradition of the Welsh Cups certainly lives on in the Konica Minolta Cup and we’re glad to be at the heart of the semi-final weekend. On top of that, we have the Magners League and the EDF Energy Final, so it’s a challenging weekend for Y Clwb Rygbi production teams and a feast for viewers.”
