Rhys Ifans to star in Pws' village pub show

19 April 2007

Internationally-renowned actor Rhys Ifans is to make a star appearance on the new S4C comedy show Pws on Friday, 20 April at 9.00pm.

Ifans, star of hit films such as Notting Hill, The Shipping News, Human Nature, Enduring Love, Twin Town and Once Upon A Time In The Midlands, is starring on the S4C touring show filmed at the Gwesty’r Llew Coch hotel in the Snowdonia mountain village of Dinas Mawddwy.

The Ruthin-bred actor, who is set to start filming the new HBO film, A Number, co-starring Tom Wilkinson, has agreed to be interviewed by show hosts, comedian Dewi ‘Pws’ and straight guy Arfon Haines Davies.

The show, available with English subtitles, also features performances from pop band Frizbee, singer Sian James and actor Tony Llywelyn and out-takes of local people cracking jokes and doing gags during week-long filming in the area.

Rhys Ifans, who has known Dewi Pws for many years but has never until now shared a stage with the comedian and actor, said that he was looking forward to taking part in the show.

Rhys Ifans, who first came to prominence in the S4C show, Y Ddau Frank, said, “I’m a great admirer of Dewi Pws – always have been. I’m a great fan of his as an entertainer, writer, actor and singer since the days of Tebot Piws in the 60s. I’d be willing to travel a very long way to be in his company.”

A delighted Dewi Pws joked, “I was told that we could afford to bring in Rhys Ifans to five shows but could only afford Ioan Gruffudd for one, so we went for the cheaper option!

Pws added. “He’s learnt everything he knows from me – he’s been a good listener. Just hope that he’s clued up enough to ask for the money up front because I’m in charge of the purse strings on this production!”

“To be serious, he’s a great guy and being Welsh is obviously very important to him. It’s a great coup for what should be a pretty lively show.”
