A group of north Wales schoolchildren will set a new Guinness World Record for the largest number of people in a bubble, in S4C’s science/entertainment show for children, Atom, shown this Friday 22 June at 4.25pm.

The 35-strong group of Year 7, 8 and 9 pupils from Ysgol Brynhyfryd, Ruthin comfortably beat the previous record of 26 held by Canadian bubble artist Ana Yang.

The record-breaking feat was organised by Atom’s producers, Cwmni Da, the company behind the Jones Jones Jones event, which last November set a new Guinness World Record for the largest same surname gathering.

The bubble record feat was staged and filmed at Coleg Llysfasi, Wrexham. The schoolchildren stood in the centre of a specially-made trough, while a large hoop was used to create the bubble around them.

Official witnesses at the event included Raymond Bartley, Vice Chair of Denbigshire County Council, and Morfudd Jones, a Ruthin Town Councillor. Atom is presented by Alun Williams, who is joined in each episode by scientific advisor, Dr Robyn Wheldon Williams, a chemistry teacher at Ysgol Brynhyfryd.

Atom Senior Producer Neville Hughes, said, “We’ve definitely caught the record-breaking bug and were delighted to follow Jones Jones Jones with this new record.”

Guinness World Records have validated the record.

In line with Guinness World Record rules, all participants had to be over 5’ in height, and everyone’s feet had to be on the floor for the duration of the record.
