This week’s Royal Welsh Agricultural Show at Llanelwedd will have a worldwide audience thanks to S4C webcasting its live coverage on its website s4c.co.uk/sioe.
Overseas breeders have already contacted S4C to express their appreciation of plans to show S4C digidol’s coverage, which will be available by logging on from 10.00am each day of show week (23-26 July). Highlights of the show will also be available via broadband to UK viewers for up to a month after the show.
Janneke Shilthuis, who breeds horses in the Netherlands, will be using the service to write an article for a local paper on the progress of other Dutch breeders exhibiting at the show. “It’s wonderful to have the chance to watch, even if you can’t visit the show,” says Janneke.
Tammy Burgin breeds Welsh ponies in California and she also intends to watch S4C’s coverage. “I will be thrilled to see live coverage of the Royal Welsh Show,” says Tammy.
S4C will broadcast over 100 hours from the Royal Welsh this year and will extend its coverage with live, uninterrupted broadcasts from the Show’s second ring, featuring the cattle classes and activities organised by Wales YFC.
The main ring will also have continuous coverage, which will run in parallel with packed, all-day programming from the Show on S4C digidol from 10.00am. On satellite and Freeview, the red button option will enable digital viewers to switch freely between these services, also available to Virgin TV viewers on S4C2.
As well as bringing the show’s competitions to a worldwide audience, the S4C website will also provide access to the Channel’s broadcast schedule, full results service and greetings from the Show.
S4C’s Y Sioe/07 highlights programmes will air at 8.25pm every night and in the week following the Show, there will be two hour-long programmes looking back at the event. The comprehensive daily farming bulletin, Bwletin Ffermio will air on S4C digidol at 12.20pm each day of the Show.
Nia Roberts will be the main anchor for S4C’s daytime coverage, with Dai Jones, Llanilar hosting the evening highlights packages, along with Cwpwrdd Dillad presenter Nia Parry and 04 Wal’s Aled Samuel.
Nia’s reporting team during the day will be Dai Jones, Daloni Metcalfe, Morgan Jones and Mari Grug. The four will be out and about on the showground bringing the latest excitement to the screen

As well as broadcasting over 100 hours from the show, S4C will stage activities each day in its pavilion on the showground and everyone is welcome to join in the fun.
Some of Wales’ top chefs will be preparing tasty meals in the pavilion each morning and afternoon and offering new ideas for all foodies. They will include top chef Dudley Newberry, and the two women who came first and second in cookery reality TV show, Chez Dudley last year, Jan Wilson Jones and Anna Brown, as well as one of the competition judges, Nerys Howell.
Among the celebrities appearing in the pavilion will be singer, Einir Dafydd, winner of S4C talent show WawFfactor in 2006 and joint winner of the Cân i Gymru competition this year. Some of the presenters of S4C’s children’s slot Planed Plant will also be on hand including Gareth Delve, Lowri Williams and Alex Jones. The children can also enjoy dancing every day with some S4C characters including Fireman Sam, Sali Mali and the Meees.
During show week there’ll also be an opportunity for viewers to enjoy favourite episodes from Cefn Gwlad and other popular rural series on S4C digidol.
