S4C has won a major prize at the prestigious 2008 Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival.
S4C won the silver prize in the Broadcast Design and Graphics Category for its ground-breaking on-screen Voice Reactive Idents.
The ten 20-second live action idents, short films which appear in the breaks between programming, feature scenes from all over Wales. Objects in the idents – whether lights in a Cardiff department store or balloons in the sky – move in time to the continuity announcer’s voice.
The idents were directed by Luc Schurgers and produced by Roger Whittlesea of Proud, and were overseen by Dylan Griffith, S4C’s former Creative Director.
