There will be lots of fun and games for youngsters in Cardiganshire as the characters from S4C’s series for young children, Pentre Bach celebrate World Book Day next month.
In Blaenpennal near Tregaron, the real-life location of the series, Jac y Jwc and his chums will host different daily events between Book Day on 6 March and 12 March.
Young visitors to the village, run by Ifana Savill and husband Adrian, will get a chance to pop in to Parri Popeth’s shop and call by to have a chat with Jaci Soch, editor of the Pentre Bach local newspaper.
Well-known Welsh authors, including Eurig Salisbury, Mei Mac, Gwyneth Glyn and Welsh Children's Laureate (Bardd Plant Cymru) 2008, Caryl Parry Jones, will visit the village to take part in the activities.
The Planed Plant Bach Bus along with presenters, Rachael Solomon a Gareth Delve from S4C’s children’s presentation service will also be at the village for Book Day.
The comprehensive programme of activities for children under nine is sponsored for the second year running by Cardiganshire Education Authority. Pentre Bach is produced by Sianco for S4C.
Siân Eirian, S4C Head of Children’s Services, said, “The characters in Pentre Bach such as Sali Mali and Jac y Jwc are ideal for attracting and encouraging children to enjoy learning and reading. We are very proud to support Book Day nationally and especially the activities here in Cardiganshire.”
Owenna Davies, the Authority’s Advisor with responsibility for Early Years Education, added, “This is an excellent opportunity for Cardiganshire children to taste the magic and fantasy of these outstanding and highly appealing facilities – it’s a very special way of bringing the world of books alive for children.”
Idris Morris Jones, Dafydd Aeron, Dafydd Jones, Emyr Bell and Rhodri ap Hywel are among the actors who play the characters in Pentre Bach.
