S4C has announced today (Monday, 7 July) that it has secured the rights to broadcast highlights of some of the world’s premier golfing competitions, including the 2010 Ryder Cup, the European Tour and the US PGA Tour.
The Channel will televise a wide package of golfing programmes over the next three years, teeing off this August and September with a series of 30-minute highlights programmes covering the European Tour and the US PGA Tour.
The three-year television coverage includes nightly highlights coverage of the 2010 European Ryder Cup to be held in Wales for the first time at The Celtic Manor, Newport in two years’ time.
As well as providing evening highlights of the 2010 Ryder Cup, S4C will broadcast an hour-long preview programme the night before the tournament starts, which will include highlights of the European Ryder Cup’s glittering Opening Ceremony.
S4C will now invite tenders from production companies to produce a package of programmes which will also include highlights coverage of the European Tour and the US PGA Golf Tour in the summers of 2009 and 2010 and an end-of-season review programme in November 2008, 2009 and 2010.
S4C’s Director of Commissioning, Rhian Gibson said: "We are delighted to announce this exciting package of action from the world's premier golfing tour and the 2010 Ryder Cup. As an Official Partner of the 2010 European Ryder Cup, S4C is committed to supporting major events in Wales."
