S4C has been nominated for Broadcaster of the Year at the 2008 Cartoon Forum Cartoon Tribute awards, which recognise outstanding contribution to the European animation industry throughout the year.
The awards will be held on 19 September in Ludwigsburg, Germany, as part of Cartoon Forum, the annual European co-production event for the animation industry.
S4C has been nominated for its “strong track record in the field of children's programming,” while “its dynamic production activity has tremendously helped Welsh animation’s development.”
S4C will be competing against France 3 (France), Jetix Europe, Sveriges Television (SVT) (Sweden) and ZDF (Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen) (Germany) for the award, which will be voted on by Cartoon Forum delegates.
Rhian Gibson, S4C’s Director of Commissioning, said, “The nomination reflects the successful collaboration between S4C and the independent animation sector in Wales. It’s great to see this creative excellence in the children’s sector recognised on an international stage ”

• S4C’s ground-breaking drama about West Walian gangsters, Y Pris, has also been nominated for a major European award. The drama, written by Tim Price and directed by Ed Talfan and Gareth Bryn, is up for the TV Fiction award at the Prix Europa 2008 TV festival, held in October. Y Pris is made by Fiction Factory.
