Following today's announcement by Ofcom that it is to reserve capacity for S4C and Channel 4 to broadcast new High Definition (HD) services on digital terrestrial television, the broadcasters issued the following joint statement:
"We are very pleased that Channel 4 and S4C’s joint bid for a HD slot on the Freeview platform has been successful. This will enable Channel 4 to launch a High Definition simulcast of Channel 4 across England, Scotland and Northern Ireland by late 2009 with S4C providing a simulcast of its service in high definition in Wales."
"We believe that the provision of HD channels on Freeview is an essential component to ensure the platform remains competitive in a fully digital world and we look forward to working with the key stakeholders to implement our plans."
