S4C has appointed Garffild Lloyd Lewis as the Channel’s Director of Communications.
Garffild, who takes up his new role on 9 March, will report to Chief Executive Iona Jones and will join S4C’s Board of Directors.
Garffild worked for BBC Cymru’s news department for 25 years, where he gained extensive experience as a manager and producer in both radio and television. He worked as News Editor and temporary Deputy Head of News and was responsible for numerous training projects.
Garffild currently runs TrawsGyfrwng Cyf, a company offering training and consultancy in the field of broadcasting.
In his new role, Garffild will lead S4C’s communications strategy as Wales prepares for full digital switchover from this August onwards. He will be responsible for S4C’s relationship with its audience and other stakeholders through all press, marketing, web and internal communications activities.
Garffild will be based at S4C’s new offices in Victoria Dock, Caernarfon, but will spend significant periods at the Channel’s headquarters in Cardiff.
Iona Jones, S4C’s Chief Executive, said, “Garffild’s wide-ranging experience will be a major asset to S4C at a time of new opportunities and challenges resulting from digital switchover. His ability to lead, his knowledge of the needs of the audience and his commitment to raising skills levels within our industry will be key to S4C’s success over the coming years.”
Garffild Lloyd Lewis said, “Broadcasting is facing an exciting period. I’m looking forward very much to meeting the challenge and to joining the team at S4C.”
