Catrin Angharad Roberts has won the Bryn Terfel Scholarship 2009, as seen on S4C on Sunday 11 October. Originally from Llanbedrgoch, Anglesey, Catrin is a prominent member of the Urdd Aelwyd on the island, and has competed as a soloist as well as in choirs and groups. In the Eisteddfod in Meirion and District, Catrin took the Lady Herbert Lewis Memorial Award for the over-21 Folk Solo.
In addition to her performing talent, Catrin composes and arranges folk music. Following her success in conducting Anglesey's youth male voice choir, Côr Meibion Aelwyd yr Ynys, in the Urdd Eisteddfod 2009, Catrin is now co-founder and conductor of Anglesey's new male voice choir.
As part of her winning programme, Catrin sang a variety of traditional Welsh melodies and contemporary show tunes.
