S4C nominated for three international awards

26 November 2009

Three S4C children’s programmes have been nominated for international awards at KidScreen, the world’s leading children’s television summit, held in New York in February 2010.

The news comes as S4C celebrates two UK industry nominations. Nursery service Cyw has been nominated for the Channel of the Year award at this year’s BAFTA Children’s Awards – to be held on Sunday - while film, Rhestr Nadolig Wil, has been nominated in the Drama category at the Awards.

Three S4C children’s productions have been nominated in different categories at the inaugural KidScreen awards. Two of the productions were major highlights of S4C’s 2008 Christmas schedule.

S4C’s feel-good family Christmas film, Rhestr Nadolig Wil (Wil’s Christmas List), a Boomerang production for S4C, has been nominated for the Best One-Off, Special or TV Movie award in the Tweens/Teens category.

Another Christmas-themed production, Nadolig Plentyn yng Nghymru, a Cwmni Da/Brave New World production for S4C, is also up for an award. Based on Dylan Thomas’ captivating children’s classic, A Child’s Christmas in Wales, directed by award-winning animator Dave Unwin and narrated by Hollywood actor Matthew Rhys, it’s been nominated in the Family - Best Animated Series category.

S4C’s popular, long-running children’s drama series, Rownd a Rownd, shot on location in North Wales by production company Rondo Media, is vying for an award in the Family - Best Non-Animated Series category

S4C’s Director of Commissioning Rhian Gibson said: “Original, imaginative programming is at the heart of all our children’s programming. These KidScreen Awards nominations, across a number of genres, are an international recognition of what S4C and its programme-makers are achieving. Following on from the BAFTA Childrens' Awards nominations, they reflect our commitment to broadcasting children’s programming of the highest quality.”

The KidScreen Summit is regarded as the world’s most important industry event, attracting over 1400 attendees from 40 countries for the 2009 event, and the new KidScreen awards awards have attracted nominations from broadcasters all over the world.
