This weekend, a group of S4C employees will cycle from the Channel’s offices in Caernarfon, to its headquarters in Cardiff to raise money for charities.
On Friday morning, 17 September, the crew of 13 workers will begin their journey through the heart of Wales, aiming to arrive at the offices in Llanishen, Cardiff on Monday night, 20 September. That’s over 200 miles in four days – it’s quite a task.
The crew will raise money for individual charities that are close to their hearts, and as a group for the Velindre Cancer Care Unit. Velindre Cancer Centre is the largest non-surgical cancer Hospital in Wales providing Radiotherapy, Chemotherapy and other specialised anti-cancer treatments for over half the people of Wales.
Arwyn Rawson-Thomas, S4C Planning Organiser, is responsible for organising the challenge.
“I wanted to organise an event that would be a challenge as well as a chance to raise money for charity. 200 miles in four days is a challenge and a half, and despite how tired we will be at the finish line Monday night, I think that the experience will be something we can all be very proud of.”
The crew have taken personal holidays to complete the task, and all costs – for hotels and transport to the starting line – will be paid for out of their own pockets.
