  S4C is calling composers and songwriters to get into the festive mood slightly earlier than usual and enter its annual Christmas Carol Competition.

This is the competition’s twelfth anniversary, which is run in conjunction with the Daily Post newspaper, and the judges are expecting a sack load of entries with one lucky winner walking away with the £1,000 prize.

The winning carol will be performed at the Thousand Christmas Voices concert at the Llangollen International Pavilion. The concert will be broadcast on S4C over the festive period.

Rob Nicholls, S4C Content Editor Culture, says, “We’re extremely excited in anticipation of the competition and its standard this year. The Thousand Voices concert is again one of the highlights of S4C’s Christmas schedule.

“Traditionally, this competition has attracted a wide range of entries every year from all over Wales and the UK. Some big names have won such as Elfed Morgan Morris, who also won S4C’s prestigious song-writing competition, Cân i Gymru, and last year’s winner, student Ynyr Llwyd, with the lullaby Cariad Mair.”

The closing date for the competition is Friday, 29 October and entries will be accepted on cassette, DAT, mini-disc, CD or manuscript (a typed copy of the lyrics must be provided).

The competition is open to people of all ages, either individuals or groups, except for employees of S4C or The Daily Post and their families. The words and music should be original and the words may be in Welsh or English.
