Presentation to commemorate S4C series at Brecon school
01 October 2010
Stars of S4C series Y Porthmon have presented Brecon’s Welsh language school Ysgol y Bannau with a special picture to commemorate the recreation of a drover’s journey.
Pictures taken along the journey – en route and at the community events – by photographer Keith Morris and members of the public were assembled to create the image of drover Dafydd Isaac. The collage was unveiled in its entirety at the end of the series.
Shân Cothi presented Keith Morris’ design to the school’s headmaster, Emyr Jones, and its pupils on Friday, 1 October at 14:00.
Ysgol y Bannau will hold a series of events to raise money for Amser Justin Time, the charity founded in memory of Shân Cothi’s late husband, Justin Smith.
In June, a series of programmes on S4C followed presenter Ifan Jones Evans as he embarked on a historic journey to retrace the footsteps of drover Dafydd Isaac – walking over 100 miles from Machynlleth to Brecon in just five days.
As Ifan and his flock followed the route under the watchful eye of shepherd Erwyd Howells, Shân Cothi was there to welcome them each evening in the communities. Special events from the 1930s were held at each location, including a Traditional Games Tournament, Sheep Dog Trials and a 1930s' Fair.
The journey came to an end with a special concert with X Factor star Rhydian Roberts and harpist Catrin Finch in Brecon.
