 The powerful S4C film Cwcw has scooped another prestigious broadcasting award by winning the European Minority Film Award 2010 at an international festival in Northern Friesland, Germany.

Cwcw (translation, Cuckoo), written and directed by Delyth Jones, is the emotionally-charged story of Cardiff scriptwriter Jane Jones who faces meltdown because of her destructive marriage to actor Sam Llewelyn.

The film, broadcast earlier this year in two parts on S4C, stars Eiry Thomas as Jane Jones, Rhys Richards as her alcoholic husband Sam and Aneirin Hughes as her friend and lover optician John Jones.

The film, produced by Fondue Films, has previously won best feature film awards at the Female Eye Film Festival, Toronto, Canada and the International Film Festival South Africa, as well as a BAFTA Cymru for Eiry Thomas as Best Actress and John Hardy for Best Original Music Soundtrack.

With its imaginative scripting, strong cast, striking film direction and set design and mesmerising music score, this film takes us on a journey from Jane’s seemingly nightmarish city life in Cardiff to the West Wales rural idyll of Iet y Bompren. On her journey, Jane crosses between fantasy and reality, truth and fiction, madness and sobriety.
