The closing date for entries in S4C’s 2011 song writing competition Cân i Gymru is fast upon us (7 January) so put your pen to paper for the last chance to compete.
S4C are inviting composers from across Wales and beyond to enter the Cân i Gymru competition, which offers a place at the Pan Celtic Festival in Ireland, as well as a cash prize of £7,500.
The shortlist of eight songs chosen by a panel of experts will be performed live on S4C from the Pontrhydfendigaid Pavilion on 6 March 2011.
Owen Powell returns as the Chair of the Panel and joining him as they draw up the shortlist will be The Pipettes lead singer Gwenno Saunders; Sibrydion guitarist and frontman, Meilir Gwynedd; Cleif Harpwood of iconic 70s band Edward H. Dafis and the versatile folk singer, Siân James.
Entries by composers can be on CD, cassette or .mp3 and must be accompanied by an entry form, which is available, along with full competition details, at the Cân i Gymru website: s4c.co.uk/canigymru. The minimum age for entry is 16.
