Welsh rugby icons promote S4C’s Six Nations Coverage
25 January 2011
Seven Welsh rugby outside-halves – and one rising star of the future – are the stars of a S4C’s latest rugby campaign to promote the channel’s 2011 Six Nations coverage.
The icons, including Cliff Morgan, Barry John, Phil Bennett, Gareth Davies, Jonathan Davies, Neil Jenkins and Stephen Jones, showcase the talent of Welsh rugby’s legends over the past sixty years.
Each of the former internationals brush off the dust on their Welsh kits to wear with pride in turn during the campaign until current Wales Under 20 star, Steve Shingler, who has just signed for London Irish, appears at the end of the promo representing the next generation of players in that position.
The on-screen campaign can be seen on air from Wednesday 26 January.
A feast of rugby will be broadcast on S4C in February and March, which includes live coverage of the 2011 RBS Six Nations Championship, Magners League, LV Cup and Wales’ under 20s match against England.
Highlights of the Heineken Cup and Rugby Sevens campaigns will also be shown.
In a brand new series from 1 February, Clwb Rygbi Shane, Shane Williams and Derwyn Jones join forces to coach Amman United’s youth team. Things are encouraging to begin with and Shane’s call for a new youth team gets a good response. But in their first pre-season game, it doesn’t look good when the team suffers a heavy defeat and ill-discipline within the squad rears its ugly head.
Jonathan Davies returns with a large dose of comedy, chat, laughter and 'Ar y Pyst', the popular rugby conversion challenge on the eve of each rugby match. He is joined by rugby referee Nigel Owens, presenter Sarra Elgan and their special guests, including current Miss Wales, Courtney Hamilton, broadcaster Chris Needs and former internationals Dafydd Jones and Robert Jones.
