People living in Llŷn and Eifionydd will be able to enjoy a range of events this April organised by S4C – from screenings of new programmes to a pub quiz, a public meeting and an evening for Welsh learners.
The activities will be held between 11 and 19 April as part of the Calon Cenedl (heart of the nation) campaign, which sees S4C visit communities across Wales to promote its programmes, personalities and online services.
Brand new drama Porthpenwaig, filmed on location in Aberdaron, will be screened in a special evening on 13 April at Ysgol Crud y Werin, Aberdaron, followed by a Q&A session with the series’ authors, Cefin Roberts and Aled Jones Williams. The series will be the focus of an evening for Welsh learners in Coleg Meirion Dwyfor on 14 April. A member of the production team will also visit local schools.
On 11 April Byw yn yr Ardd presenter Russell Jones will be at the Felin Uchaf Centre, Rhoshirwaun to help out at the community garden and answer people’s questions. On 19 April, Russell will attend a community garden for young people in Pwllheli. Stwnsh presenter and chef Anthony Evans will also be cooking at the event.
Presenter Morgan Jones, who lives in Trefor, will host a pub quiz at the Prince of Wales Cricieth on 12 April.
Actress Lauren Phillips will hold a special dance lesson at Pwllheli School of Dance on 16 April to promote the new series Team Talent for young people.
On 18 April there will be an evening to promote Perthyn, a new series which helps people delve into their family history, at the Lloyd George Museum, Llanystumdwy. Members of the production team will be present along with members of the People’s Collection Wales.
Activities promoting Marcaroni, a brand new pre-school series, will be held in nursery groups and schools throughout the period. Anni Llŷn and Owain Gwynedd, presenters of S4C’s slot for older children, Stwnsh, will also be out and about.
There’ll be a warm welcome for viewers of all ages at S4C’s Viewers’ Evening in Y Ganolfan, Porthmadog on 19 April. People can discuss the Channel and its programmes face-to-face with Chief Executive, Arwel Ellis Owen and other members of S4C staff, also the Chairman of the Authority, Rheon Tomos and other Authority members. Light refreshment and entertainment will also be available on the evening.
