Two of Wales’ most popular children’s characters have come together to record a new version of the evergreen Urdd anthem Hei Mistar Urdd for an eye-catching new video.
S4C children’s character, the lively rapper Rapsgaliwn and Mistar Urdd filmed a new pop video at Swansea’s Castle Gardens, since this year’s Urdd National Eisteddfod is being held in the city from 30 May to 4 June.
The video will be used as a programme trailer by S4C in the Urdd Eisteddfod run-up to flag up S4C’s comprehensive live and highlights coverage of Europe’s largest youth festival. The trailer will be shown on the Channel for the first time tonight (Monday 9 May).
S4C and the Urdd have come together to record a cover of the classic song Hei Mistar Urdd which has been an anthem for generations of children since it was first released in 1976. But this new version will give it a 21st century feel with one of the most colourful characters from S4C’s Cyw children’s TV service, Rapsgaliwn, enjoying a starring role.
The video will be available for download at urdd.org/eisteddfod and s4c.co.uk.
Siân Eirian, Head of S4C’s Children Services said: “We are delighted to be working together with the Urdd on the remake of the Mistar Urdd song and video. It brings together one of the most iconic Welsh children’s characters with one of the newest from our pioneering children’s service, Cyw. It reflects the close relationship between us and the Urdd as we prepare for one of Wales’ milestone annual events.”
Aled Siôn, Director of the Urdd National Eisteddfod said: “Mistar Urdd’s classic song has been a favourite with children all over Wales for many years and the song’s remake along with the video, released in the run-up to this year’s Eisteddfod featuring S4C’s Rapsgaliwn is adding to the buzz in Swansea and further afield as the festival approaches.”
