S4C has announced that 29 members of staff are to leave their jobs under a voluntary redundancy scheme.
S4C established the voluntary redundancy scheme for staff in the wake of the budget cuts imposed on the Channel. Details of the scheme were announced on 12 May.
A 24% cut over four years in S4C’s budget was announced as part of the Westminster Government’s Comprehensive Spending Review last October.
In addition to inviting applications for voluntary redundancy, S4C announced its willingness to consider applications from staff wishing to reduce their work hours or wishing to job share.
S4C Chief Executive, Arwel Ellis Owen, said, “It’s always sad to see staff leave and I’d like to thank them for their contribution, many of them over many years. This is the first stage of a process that will lead to restructuring S4C in order to identify other savings and secure the long-term future of the Channel.”
