S4C has welcomed the amendment to the Public Bodies Bill made by the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Jeremy Hunt, ensuring that future funding of the Channel will be determined by Government.
The amendment states that the Secretary of State will secure that in 2012 and each subsequent year S4C is paid an amount which he considers sufficient to cover the cost of providing Welsh language broadcasting services.
An S4C spokesperson said, “Given the uncertainties currently surrounding the future governance and funding of S4C, this amendment provides the important recognition that responsibility for providing adequate funding for the S4C service remains with Government.”
