New service to be launched as Fflic are awarded learners’ programming contract
14 December 2011
Production company Fflic has won the contract to provide a package of programmes for learners following an open tendering process.
Fflic, part of the Boomerang+ group, will start immediately on the work of preparing the series of weekly programmes.
The service for learners will start in March 2012 as part of the new schedule to be launched during this month.
S4C intends to broadcast an hour-long programme weekly on Sunday afternoons.
Fflic will produce 52 programmes during the first year, providing multi-platform on-line provision as part of the package. This production agreement will be for two years.
Fflic has a proven record as a producer of programmes for learners on S4C, having previously produced cariad@iaith/love4language and Welsh in a Week.
Meirion Davies, S4C’s Head of Content said, “Providing a wider service for Welsh Learners is an important part of the S4C Vision for 2012 and beyond.
“Research conducted by the Channel has shown that this important S4C audience wants to see an expansion of the current service. We have consulted with other organisations which provide services for learners, before deciding on the kind of provision which is needed.
“Fflic’s programme ideas were exciting and imaginative and matched the vision providing a useful, well-targeted service for learners. The service will aim to entertain and hopefully be a bridge to bring in viewers to the channel’s other programmes. We want the programmes to inspire and motivate people to learn the language.”
