S4C has announced a new commissioning structure under the leadership of a Director of Content and four Content Commissioners.
Ian Jones, S4C Chief Executive, said, “The aim is to move from a system of editorial supervision with commissioning decisions being made jointly by the entire commissioning team to a structure where individual commissioners will commission content and multi-platform digital services.
“The new arrangement will enable S4C to respond quickly to ideas by giving detailed consideration to the expectations of our viewers and consumers. Developments in broadcasting and new technology offer new challenges and opportunities and I look forward to introducing a new structure which will promote creativity across the field of broadcasting and digital media in Wales and beyond.
“The Director of Content and the individuals appointed will be a vital link with the independent sector and BBC Wales and will promote collaborative working across the creative sector in order to create content that will be bold and ambitious.”
Currently S4C has a Director of Commissioning and eight editors and heads of commissioning. The new posts will be advertised internally and externally later this week. S4C will be consulting with individuals affected by the changes.
