An S4C comedy programme Wil a Cêt has been nominated in the Royal Television Society Programme Awards.
It has been nominated in the Nations and Regions Programme category and the ceremony will be held in London on 20 March.
This is the second award nomination for the programme. It is also nominated in the Entertainment category at the Celtic Media Festival held in Derry, Northern Ireland in April.
Dylan Huws of Cwmni Da, who co-produced Wil a Cêt with comedian Tudur Owen, says, “We are delighted with the nomination. S4C allowed us the creative freedom to make a programme that we really believed in and that faith has now been repaid with nominations in both the RTS Awards and the Celtic Media Festival.”
The programme was broadcast for the first time in April 2011. Wil a Cêt is a mock documentary that follows three couples from Anglesey as they take part in a competition to win tickets for an exclusive event to celebrate the marriage of Prince William and Catherine Middleton.
“A cast of non-actors was used for the production with scenes ad-libbed within a set structure. The programme received plaudits by the audience and critics alike, although some were fooled into thinking that it was a genuine documentary!” adds Dylan Huws.
Geraint Rowlands, S4C's Interim Director of Commissioning, says, "Congratulations to the team at Cwmni Da for the nomination. Wil and Cêt captured the imagination of viewers and it sparked a lot of discussion on interactive websites such as Twitter and Facebook. "
Another programme by the team behind Wil a Cêt will be broadcast on S4C at 9.00pm on St David's Day.
The documentary Dim Byd/Mwy: Jac y Ddafad Wyllt tells the story of Jac Marmalêd Morgan a ‘lost’ Olympic hero from Penygroes who competed in the 10,000 meter race in Helsinki, 1952.
With the help of archive footage, Jac’s story is told by members of his family. There are also contributions by the community in Penygroes, and a respected historian and fellow Olympian, who won gold in the 1964 Tokyo games, will also share their memories.
