An S4C children’s presenter has won the Crown at the Urdd National Eisteddfod in Eryri.

Anni Llŷn, originally from Sarn Mellteyrn on the Lleyn Peninsula, claimed the top prize in the prose competition on Friday 8 June.

“I’m a bag of nerves,” explains Anni, “but I’m over the moon. I wasn’t expecting to win at all. It’s completely surreal – earlier today I was over on the caravan site rehearsing Stwnsh Sadwrn and then this afternoon I’ve won the Crown in the pavilion!”

This year’s theme was to interpret Egin (Shoots) in a prose piece and the entries were judged by authors Catrin Dafydd and Meg Elis.

This isn’t the first time for Anni, 24, to compete for one of the week’s top prizes. The presenter was third in the Crown competition at the 2011 Urdd National Eisteddfod in Swansea.

“The biggest motivation for me was that this would be my last chance to compete as I’ll be too old to do so next year. The art of writing gives you the freedom to be imaginative and experimental in your work,” she adds.

Anni presents programmes on Stwnsh – S4C’s dedicated service for young people – alongside Lois Cernyw, Tudur Phillips and Owain Gwynedd.
