  "The history of a nation is all-important. Every generation has an obligation to preserve the history of their nation." This is the message from Llinos Griffin-Williams, producer of a new children's series starting tonight on S4C.

Brand new series, Ditectifs Hanes will bring alive the history of Wales for the nation's children. This pioneering series is set to educate as well as entertain and will be providing additional digital teaching content on the website.

In each episode of Ditectifs Hanes, which will be broadcast as part of the daily children's programme Stwnsh, presenters Anni Llŷn and Tudur Phillips, alongside cartoon character Hefin Hanes, will guide the viewers through the ages while travelling the length and breadth of Wales.

From the Crafty Celts to the Astonishing Romans, the Perilous Princes to the Industrial Revolution; with wacky costumes, amazing graphics, witty characters and funny cartoons, Ditectifs Hanes will bring the past alive today.

Llinos Griffin-Williams, Producer of Ditectifs Hanes said:

"The history of a nation is all-important. Every generation has an obligation to preserve the history of their nation.

"In educating our children about history we are ensuring that our history is remembered and remains alive today. It's crucial that we encourage an awareness of who we are – presenting the history of Wales to children in a colourful and interesting way is a good start."

The aim of this special series is to educate as well as entertain. Numerous experts will join the presenters during their journey through the ages, and additional digital content on the web will coincide with the programme and allow for further education in the classroom.

"It gives me great pleasure to see Ditectifs Hanes, such a funny and lively series on Stwnsh. I'm sure the audience will be laughing as they learn horrible facts about the history of Wales. As well as the television series, there is additional educational content on the web. Teachers can make use of these additional films while teaching their pupils about the History of Wales in Key Stage 2.

This is the first time that S4C has offered educational material alongside a television programme and we're very grateful to Green Bay Media and Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales for their co-operation in this exciting venture."

Following the success of BBC Cymru Wales's 'The Story of Wales', a partnership was established between S4C, Green Bay Media and Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales to create Ditectifs Hanes. Many of Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales's locations were used during the filming of the series, and many experts from the establishment appear on the programme to give the Detectives a helping hand.

Let's hope that the programme inspires young history detectives up and down the country!"

Ditectifs Hanes will be broadcast every Tuesday on Stwnsh at 6.00.
