Ffermio Trailers competition: winners announced

28 November 2012

A Gwynedd farm worker has won the top prize in S4C Ffermio's popular annual competition – a state-of-the-art Ifor Williams Trailer.

Dylan Hughes was presented with his early Christmas present, a TA5 pig and sheep trailer worth £2,665 at the Royal Welsh Winter Fair at Llanelwedd in a competition run in conjunction with Ifor Williams Trailers.

The second prize, an 8' x 5' flatbed trailer with sides, worth £1,645, was won by Meirion Wynne, of Prion, near Denbigh, while Richard Phillips, of Pumheol, Llanelli, won the third prize, a P6e trailer worth £670.

"I already have two Ifor Williams trailers and this new one will be a very useful addition. I've never really won anything before and it came as a bit of a shock when I heard I'd won this because I know they must receive so many entries," said Dylan, who works at Crugeran Farm in Sarn Meylltern, on the Llyn Peninsula.

In the programme, produced by production company Telesgop, viewers were asked to answer one question each week for seven weeks, with the initial letters of the answers forming an anagram.

Meirion Wynne, who won the second prize, keeps 200 sheep at his 100-acre Denbighshire farm. He was delighted to see his luck change, as he broke his leg recently in an accident.

"We enter various competitions, including things like raffles, but never win anything. It came as a shock to learn we had won this trailer," he said.

Third prize winners Richard and Wendy Phillips may now consider keeping sheep at their three-acre smallholding at Pumheol after winning an Ifor Williams P6e trailer.

"We used to have Welsh Black cattle but currently have no stock, so now we have the trailer, we may now start rearing sheep. We've never won anything of value before, so we jumped up and down with excitement when we heard we had won," said Wendy.

Gwawr Martha Lloyd, S4C Programme Commissioner, says, "The competition has proven to be as popular this year as ever and many congratulations to the winners.

"The popularity of the competition reflects the importance of Ffermio as one of the cornerstones of the S4C schedule bringing us the latest news and events in our rural communities and in the agricultural industry. Thanks to Ifor Williams Trailers and Telesgop, who produce Ffermio, for arranging the competition."

Iorwerth Roberts, Ifor Williams' Head of Sales in North Wales, said Ifor Williams Trailers was proud to be associated with Ffermio and that the faith in their product was clearly demonstrated in the response to the competition. "It is an indication that our trailers are in great demand," he added.

Terwyn Davies from Ffermio production company, Telesgop added, "The Ffermio competition is very valuable to us, with viewers far and wide tuning in, in the hope of getting their hands on the trailers. The winners appreciate the quality of the trailers, be they farmers, small holders, or horse owners."
