Exclusive first look at Y Gwyll Hinterland

08 August 2013

Visitors to the Denbigh and District National Eisteddfod 2013 are being given the first ever chance to see footage of the international detective series Y Gwyll Hinterland. One of the authors and the lead actors will reveal more about the highly anticipated series – and the audience will be given the first glimpse of the action as exclusive clips are shown.

At the S4C Theatre on the Eisteddfod Maes, at 1.oopm Thursday 8 August, a special hour long session will discuss the production with lead actors Richard Harrington and Mali Harries, along with Executive Producer Ed Thomas. As part of the discussion a special video will give us a taste of what's to come on S4C in October, when Y Gwyll Hinterland will be broadcast for the first time.

The National Eisteddfod was chosen as the first location for a showing – before similar international sessions are held in London and Cannes. And the premier night will be held in Aberystwyth in October.

Angharad Mair will chair the session, asking the actors about their characters and the story; the challenge of filming in two languages; and the filming work which happened entirely in Ceredigion, and how the landscape contributes to the look and feel of the production on screen.

S4C Content Commissioner, Gwawr Martha Lloyd will also take part in the discussion, to explain the importance of this ambitious project which has been filmed in both Welsh and English for the international market. It is being distributed internationally by ALL3MEDIA International and it has already been purchased by BBC Cymru Wales, BBC4 and Danish broadcasters DR Denmark, for broadcast in 2014.

Gwawr Martha Lloyd says, "Y Gwyll Hinterland is already a much talked about production, and as we near the S4C broadcast in the autumn, it is extremely exciting to be able to show clips of the drama for the first time. The clips will present the mystery and unique feel of the Y Gwyll Hinterland series and is sure to excite and leave viewers wanting more as we look forward to watching the series later in the year."

Over the next few months, similar sessions will be held to showcase the series to journalists and members of the broadcasting industry. The first will be held at BAFTA in London and then at Mipcom in Cannes, France – a trade event for international broadcasters.

But the 2013 National Eisteddfod will be the first place to see the taste of the drama to come, and S4C will be the first place to see Y Gwyll Hinterland as it hits the screen in October.
