Some of Welsh rugby’s brightest new talents will soon be on show as S4C launches its brand new rugby magazine series, Rygbi Pawb.
In partnership with the Welsh Rugby Union, Rygbi Pawb will cover all the best action from both the Principality Premiership and the WRU Under 18 League with highlights every week throughout the season.
The new series kicks off on Wednesday, 25 September when the spotlight falls on the WRU Under 18 league fixture between Bridgend College and Newport High School. Morgan Isaac will present all the action with match commentary from Wyn Gruffydd.
In addition to Rygbi Pawb S4C will continue to stream live matches online from the WRU Under 18 League, beginning with the Bridgend College v Newport High School match on Wednesday, 25 September at 2:30pm on s4c.co.uk/rygbi.
Over the course of the season Rygbi Pawb will also bring you all the news and developments from within the rugby world in Wales by visiting schools, clubs, and colleges from around the country. In addition to the on-field action the show aims to reflect on the paths young Welsh players take in order to try to reach the top of the game.
In conjunction with the WRU, Rygbi Pawb will also be present on the web, providing daily news stories, the latest tables, fixtures and results on the S4C website for the first time ever.
S4C’s Director of Content, Dafydd Rhys said, "We pride ourselves in the depth of sporting coverage we offer on S4C, and this new programme will supplement the higher profile competitions which we associate with today’s professional era.
"There is a great amount of support and interest out there in the players who are coming through the ranks and who could be the next big names to appear at regional or even national level. Our Principality Premiership and Under 18 competition are where that emerging talent often appears first. We’re really looking forward to seeing all that action in one place on S4C on Rygbi Pawb."
The Group Chief Executive of the WRU, Roger Lewis, said, "We congratulate S4C for deciding to open this broadcast window to such an exciting and vibrant level of Welsh rugby which shows viewers the true extent of young talent we have moving along our pathway structures.
"Schools and colleges are so important to the future of our game and by webcasting live games and broadcasting a wide range of weekly highlights S4C is helping us build interest and increase all important participation.
"I know how hard the teams and coaches are working to ensure that what the viewers see is a highly skilled and competitive brand of rugby which all our fans will enjoy."
Russell Isaac of production company, SMS said, "The purpose of Rygbi Pawb is to provide a stage for emerging young talent throughout Wales. Hopefully the partnership between S4C, SMS and the WRU will attract more teams and players to compete in the U18 competition and in the long-run expand the talent pool available to the clubs, regions and the national team."
