Wales’ major new awards ceremony, the St David Awards, will be broadcast on S4C in March 2014 – but who will get recognition by being nominated for the prizes.

The awards will be presented at an event in Cardiff – and there’s less than a month left to nominate those people you consider should receive recognition.

Nine awards will be made in various fields as part of a new national scheme run by the Welsh Government.

Do you know anyone deserving recognition in any of the following categories:

• Bravery

• Citizenship

• Culture

• Enterprise

• Innovation and Technology

• International

• Sport

• Young Person

Also, on awards night, Wales’ First Minister, Carwyn Jones will present a special St David Award.

S4C Content Commissioner, Gaynor Davies said: “The St David Awards provide a platform to recognise special contributions by people from all parts of Wales in various ways and I’m particularly pleased that S4C is the media partner for the scheme.

“We’re all familiar with individuals in our communities who really work hard and fulfil things of value to the life of the nation. I very much hope that people throughout Wales will consider who in their communities truly deserve to be recognised for their contributions.

“We’re looking forward eagerly to show the awards ceremony on S4C and to look at the lives of some of the nominated individuals on our nightly magazine programme Heno between now and March.”

Speaking at the launch of the Awards in September, First Minister Carwyn Jones said: “We may be a small country but our achievements are great. When I announced my intentions to hold these awards earlier this year I wanted to be able to recognise those great achievements, which so often are made by the ordinary people of Wales, people who work tirelessly for others and make a real difference to the quality of life in Wales and expect nothing in return.

“Most of us have been fortunate enough to meet someone like this at some point in our lives and now is our chance to give something back. I would urge people to fill out the form and nominate anyone they feel deserves recognition and give them the opportunity to be put in the spotlight.”
