The popular detective series Y Gwyll/Hinterland has won the Best Drama Series award at the 2014 Celtic Media Festival.
The series, broadcast first on S4C in autumn 2013, came top in a tough category which also features another of S4C's successful dramas Alys (Teledu Apollo, part of Boom Pictures Cymru).
Also nominated was the murder thriller The Fall (Artists Studio Ltd for BBC) and sci-fi phenomenon Doctor Who (BBC Cymru Wales).
The award comes on the same day as an announcement that Y Gwyll/Hinterland is to return for a second series in late 2014/early 2015, with production to begin in Ceredigion in September, 2014.
Y Gwyll/Hinterland is a Fiction Factory production in association with S4C, Tinopolis, BBC Cymru Wales, S4C Co-Production Fund and All3Media International Ltd.
Gethin Scourfield said on behalf of the producers Fiction Factory, "I'm obviously very pleased to accept this award considering the strength of the category. Thanks to everyone; the writers, the cast and crew. Everyone has worked incredibly hard. But it wouldn't have been possible without the welcome and the co-operation of the people of Aberystwyth and the local area. I'm looking forward to the next series!"
S4C Drama Commissioner Gwawr Martha Lloyd said, "Congratulations to the producers of Y Gwyll/Hinterland. They have won in an incredibly strong category. It's very exciting. Fantastic!"
This is S4C's third prize at this year's festival. On Wednesday the documentary film Gerallt (Cwmni Da) won in the Arts category, and the documentary series for young people #FI (Boom Plant, part of Boom Pictures Cymru) came top in the Childrens category.
The annual festival is being held in St Ives, Cornwall this year on 2-4 April.
In a special edition of Heno on S4C Monday night, 7 April 7.00, Aneirin Karadog and Gwenno Saunders will present a look at the events of the festival which celebrates the best of broadcasting, on TV and radio, in the Celtic nations – Cornwall, Wales, Ireland, Brittany, Isle of Man and Scotland.
