S4C has reinforced its commitment to changing the channel's online domain name to .cymru and .wales, confirming that they will be among the first to adopt the new domain names.
Today (Monday 21 July) at the S4C building at the Royal Welsh Agricultural Show, Nominet, the company responsible for registering .cymru and .wales, will announce a long list of leading institutions who have committed to changing their domain names from .com or .uk to .cymru and .wales.
Along with S4C, today's announcement includes the National Assembly for Wales, Wales Federation of Young Farmers Club, Sport Wales, National Museum Wales, National Library of Wales, Welsh Book Council and the Arts Council of Wales.
The Welsh Government and the Only Men Aloud choir have already announced their commitment.
As an early supporter of the campaign, the work of implementing the changes across S4C's online presence has begun.
Huw Marshall, S4C Digital Manager says, "We're discussing the requirements of implementing the changes across our online presence. As one of the earliest supporters, it's satisfying to see the launch of .cymru and .wales drawing nearer."
S4C is glad to see so many other institutions committing to the switch and Garffild Lloyd Lewis, S4C's Director of Communications, Marketing and Partnerships says that the significance reaches further than name alone.
Garffild Lloyd Lewis says, "Switching to the .cymru and .wales domain names across all S4C's online content will reinforce our status and pride as the only Welsh language TV channel in the world.
"With a sizeable and varied list of leading institutions committing to making the change, seeing .cymru used online across the world will raise awareness of Wales as a confident nation who takes pride in her identity and international contribution."
