At the National Eisteddfod on Friday, 8 August at 12.00pm, Jess Hall will perform an Ochr 1 acoustic set at Caffi Maes B.

Born in Cardiff, Jess was raised in Llandrindod by her Welsh father and American mother.

Jess sings in English and Welsh and plays both the piano and harmonium. She shares the stage with musician Noel Doak, who plays the double base, percussion and uses live looping.

Jess admires a vast variety of musicians, and lists Bjork, Tom Waits, PJ Harvey and traditional Welsh folk music as artists and styles which have influenced her.

Jess' first EP, Glas Oren (Blue Orange) was released in April this year. The EP was produced by Charlie Francis who's worked with renowned artists such as REM and The Noisettes. Glas Oren gives a feel of Jess's musical style which has been described as contemporary folk with trip pop influences.

Following her performance at Caffi Maes B Griff Lynch, presenter of S4C's music series Ochr 1 will be chatting to the artist, and he's obviously a bit of a fan.

"Jess Hall is a breath of fresh air in the Welsh music scene," says Griff, who is himself a musician, and a member of Welsh band, Yr Ods. "There's something about her jazz/pop style that makes me feel like I'm somewhere in Eastern Europe."
