Clwb Rygbi returns for the new Pro12 season with a new name, a new slot and a new commentator, as Gareth Charles joins the presentation team.

Gareth Charles will already be familiar to rugby fans as part of the presentation team on BBC Cymru Wales programmes and will now bring the excitement from the matches in Welsh to Clwb Rygbi.

Gareth’s contribution to the team is one of the many changes to the programme this year, in a new slot at 3.45pm on Sunday afternoon as part of the programme Clwb on S4C. The programme will contain a wide variety of live sport and highlights, including rugby and football.

Gareth Charles joins the line-up which includes Gareth Roberts as the main presenter, former Wales captain Gwyn Jones and reporter Dot Davies, as well as other contributors.

Gareth Charles said: “I’m really looking forward to joining Clwb Rygbi for the new season as a commentator. The Pro12 looks stronger than ever and it will be exciting to see how the regional teams perform this year.”

Dafydd Rhys, S4C’s Director of Content said: “I’m very pleased that Gareth is joining the Clwb Rygbi team as its main commentator. With his experience, credibility and talent as a broadcaster, he will be a valuable asset to S4C’s provision.”

Clwb Rygbi is produced by BBC Cymru Wales and the Head of Welsh Language Programmes and Services is delighted that such a polished broadcaster is joining Clwb Rygbi.

Siân Gwynedd, Head of Welsh Language Programmes and Services, said: “We’re really pleased that Gareth is joining the Clwb Rygbi presenting team. He’s an experienced and authoritative commentator and I’m sure that viewers will enjoy listening to him commentate in Welsh on S4C.”

Recently, S4C and BBC Cymru Wales announced a four year deal to broadcast games from the Pro12 on terrestrial TV.

With the Pro12 league looking to be one of the most competitive in its history, BBC Cymru Wales and S4C offer the widest possible coverage to rugby fans.

Clwb Rygbi will be broadcast on Sunday afternoons on S4C, with games starting at 4pm. On Monday evenings Clwb Rygbi will broadcast Saturday afternoon’s Sky game in full.
