22 October 2014
The BAFTA Cymru awards night is the highlight of the year for the film and TV industry in Wales; and this year S4C viewers can enjoy a taste of this special evening, held at the Wales Millennium Centre.
BAFTA Cymru 2014, produced by Rondo Media, is an hour long programme shown on S4C at 9.30 on Sunday 26 October – the same evening as the awards ceremony – where viewers will be given the star treatment and a front row seat for the ceremony's main events.
The glamorous Alex Jones will be there on our behalf, to chat with guests and congratulate the winners as they step off the stage proudly clutching their precious awards.
To co-present the programme, Morgan Jones will dust off his best suit and guide us through the categories, nominees and winners.
The S4C coverage will also include a sensational performance by classical star Katherine Jenkins, which will kick off the ceremony in style this year, before the evening's presenter Jason Mohammad steers the main event of announcing and distributing the awards.
Alex Jones, who has become widely recognised across the UK as presenter of The One Show on BBC One, presented the 2012 BAFTA Cymru ceremony, and she is glad to share the event with S4C viewers this year.
The presenter from Ammanford said, "This is a big night for Welsh film and television, a chance for people to come together and celebrate an industry which is relatively small, in relation to the whole of Britain, but is a strong and flourishing industry which produces a lot of talent on screen and behind the camera.
"It's good that we can share the evening with viewers and include them in the event. Perhaps people will have heard about the awards and seen a few clips of the red carpet on the news, but in this programme, viewers will be able to see just how much it means to actors, producers and people within the industry to win a BAFTA Cymru award."
Hannah Raybould, Director at BAFTA Cymru said, "We're thrilled that S4C will be broadcasting the awards this year after a break of several years. The BAFTA Cymru awards night is a special event with plenty of entertainment as a host of familiar faces from the world of film and television come together to celebrate the best of the industry. With Katherine Jenkins opening the ceremony this year it’s sure to be an interesting night for the viewers as well as the audience at the Wales Millennium Centre."
There are a total of 28 categories in the BAFTA Cymru awards, with accolades including best actor, TV programme, series and film, as well as recognising the work of directors, producers, make-up artists and costume designers.
Among this year's nominations are 39 for S4C content, with Y Gwyll/Hinterland leading the pack with nine nominations. Other S4C dramas are also nominated: 35 Diwrnod, Gwaith/Cartref, Reit Tu Ôl i Ti, Y Syrcas, Fi a Miss World.
