S4C content among the top BAFTA Cymru 2014 winners

   Y Gwyll/Hinterland was one of the main winners at the BAFTA Cymru 2014 ceremony, with the detective drama taking three of the evening's honours.

S4C content was awarded a total 11 BAFTA Cymru 2014 honours in a ceremony held on Sunday 26 October to celebrate the achievements of the film and TV industry in Wales.

Among the 11 awards, Rhian Blythe was named Best Actress for her role as Grug Matthews in the S4C drama series Gwaith/Cartref (Fiction Factory). And the best Single Documentary award went to the moving programme O'r Galon: Yr Hardys: Un Dydd ar y Tro (Rondo Media).

The three awards for Y Gwyll were Best Writer for Jeff Murphy, Director Fiction for Marc Evans and Photography and Lighting for Richard Stoddard.

And as we wait eagerly for the brand new one-off special episode of Y Gwyll/Hinterland on S4C on New Year's Day, the channel is offering another chance to enjoy the award winning series. Starting on Sunday 9 November 10.00pm, experience the thrilling first series again in full (with English subtitles) and get set for the return of DCI Tom Mathias and his team to S4C.

Another of the channel's drama series, the thriller 35 Diwrnod (Teledu Apollo), took a craft award for Dafydd Hunt in the Editing category.

The ITV Cymru Wales team behind the series Y Byd ar Bedwar came out on top in the Current Affairs category for their report on the aftermath of Typhoon Haian. And the BBC Cymru Wales sports team were winners in the Sport and Live OB category with Clwb Rygbi.

Dylan Wyn Richards was awarded the Director Factual award for the documentary on historian John Davies, Gwirionedd y Galon: Dr John Davies (Teledu Telesgôp). The comedy show Dim Byd (Cwmni Da) triumphed in the Music and Entertainment category, and Best Children's Programme was awarded to the animated series Ni Di Ni (Griffilms).

Dafydd Rhys, S4C Content Commissioner said, "I'm extremely pleased to see S4C content receiving these honours. The Awards recognise the work of the Creative industries in Wales, and the talents which exists within the independent sector, BBC Cymru and ITV Cymru which continue to produce daring, challenging and entertaining multi-platform content for S4C."

This year, S4C viewers were able to experience the glamour of the BAFTA Cymru 2014 awards ceremony in a special programme which brought the best of the evening's events along with interviews with the stars and a sensational performance by classical star Katherine Jenkins.
