And in making the announcement, S4C Director of Content said that Wales had lost a man who had made a huge contribution to the world of entertainment and television in Wales over the past five decades.
Alun 'Sbardun' Huws was a founding member of the pop group who made such an impression on the Welsh music scene in the 1960s and 1970s. Alun ‘Sbardun’ Huws of Penrhyndeudraeth, Gwynedd was also a highly respected producer and director.
S4C will broadcast Gwreiddiau Roc: Y Tebot Piws on Thursday, 18 December at 9:30, when we can enjoy the opportunity to watch the 2011 programme which showed how Dewi Pws, Emyr Huws Jones, Alun 'Sbardun' Huws and Stan Morgan-Jones brought a new brand of music to the Welsh-language music scene.
The magazine programme Heno on Tuesday, 16 December 7.00pm, also paid tribute to the musician who made such a contribution to the music scene.
Dafydd Rhys, S4C Director of Content said, "Alun 'Sbardun' Huws was passionate about everything he did as a producer, director and as a songwriter and performer. Personally, I came to know 'Sbardun' when I was starting my career in television with HTV Cymru Wales in the early 1980s, and his creativity, professionalism and generosity of spirit was an inspiration for a young researcher and producer like myself.
"In sympathising with his family and friends, I would like to say that his invaluable contribution to our popular culture will live on in the raft of programmes and songs he helped to produce."
