S4C is to broadcast a programme in tribute to the composer and musician Rhys Jones who died earlier this week.
As well as being a talented and inspirational composer, musician, accompanist and teacher, he was also a familiar face in the world of broadcasting, including fronting the S4C series Dechrau Canu Dechrau Canmol.
He was also a regular contributor to programmes and events such as the National Eisteddfod, sharing his vast and expert knowledge of music.
The programme Rhys Jones: Gŵr y Gân will be shown again on Saturday, 17 January, at 7.00pm (English subtitles). First shown in 2010, the programme is a film portrayal of the composer and celebrates his work and contribution to Welsh music and culture, including performances of some of his most popular songs.
Paying tribute to Rhys Jones, S4C Authority Chairman, Huw Jones says; "Rhys Jones's influence is far-reaching and his work is part of the fabric of Welsh music in the second half of the 20th Century. His talent and warmth was a breath of fresh air and he will be sorely missed."
He leaves a wife and two children. His daughter is the singer, composer, broadcaster and performer Caryl Parry Jones, who is a key contributor to a raft of S4C programmes.
