Y Lleuad a'r Sêr shines brightest as it wins Cân i Gymru 2015

The winning song of the S4C 2015 Can i Gymru competition is Y Lleuad a’r Ser by Elin Angharad and Arfon Wyn. who take home the coveted Can i Gymru trophy and a cash prize of £3,500.

The competition was held on Saturday 7 March in Mon Pavilion, Gwalchmai for the second time and broadcast live on S4C. Singer and TV presenter Elin Fflur fronted the show. alongside fellow television presenter Trystan Ellis-Morris.

Elin Angharad is a young singer from Gaerwen, Anglesey. After spending a year in New York studying musical theatre, she is now back in Wales and hopes to go to university next year.

"I love singing musical numbers, but it's such an honour to get to sing a pop song like Y Lleuad a'r Sêr (The Moon and the Stars) and composing the song with Arfon Wyn was a great experience!" says Elin.

S4C’s Entertainment Commissioner, Elen Rhys said: “The standards were extremely high once again this year and congratulations to all the talented artists for a memorable evening of dynamic performances. But, there can only be one winner, and that song is Y Lleuad a’r Ser by Elin Angharad and Arfon Wyn. A huge congratulations to them both and I wish them all the best at the Pan-Celtic Song Festival in Ireland.”

Eight varied songs competed in the final: O’r O'r Brwnt a'r Baw by Darren Bolger; Cariad Pur by Catrin Hopkins and Pheena; Y Llais by Aled Evans; Tri Mis Yn Ôl by Cai Morgan and Lewys Mann; Pluen Wen by Neil Maliphant; Oes yn Ôl by Sera Owen; Tynna Fi I'r Glaw by Team Panda and Y Lleuad a'r Sêr by Elin Angharad and Arfon Wyn.

Out of the eight competing songs, the judges chose the four songs that would proceed to the super final. The public were then asked to vote for their favourite song by telephone. The public televote accounted for half of the final score with the other half coming from the judging panel.

This year’s panel featured presenter Aled Haydn Jones, the versatile singer and performer Caryl Parry Jones, radio presenter Lisa Gwilym and voice coach Euros Rhys Evans.
