Two notable factual productions by S4C have won Silver and Bronze medals at the 2015 New York International Film and Television awards.
A Silver Medal was awarded in the Biography/Profiles category for the honest portrayal of the late historian Dr John Davies. Gwirionedd y Galon: Dr John Davies, a Telesgop production, was first broadcast in 2013 during the year of his 75th birthday.
A Bronze Medal was given to the three-part documentary series Adam Price a Streic y Glowyr in the History and Society category. The series, produced by Tinopolis, follows the politician Adam Price as he explores the year-long Miners' Strike.
Llion Iwan, S4C Factual Content Commissioner, said, "I'm very proud that two programmes of such significance to Welsh history and heritage have been honoured in this way at an international awards event. Adam Price's journey through the 1984-85 Miners' Strike is a lasting personal document of a turbulent year in recent history. The portrayal of the late Dr John Davies, made even more poignant following his death in February 2015, is a fitting tribute to a man who did more than anyone of his generation to expand our understanding of Welsh history."
The awards were presented at a ceremony in Las Vegas on Tuesday 14 April, 2015, where S4C programmes enjoyed success for the third year running at the international event.
In 2013 the documentary Fy Chwaer a Fi (Bulb Films, Part of Boom Pictures Cymru) won a Gold Medal in the Human Concerns category. In 2014, the series Taith Fawr y Dyn Bach (Cwmni Da) won Silver in the Human Concerns category and Karen (Cwmni Da) took the Bronze Medal in the same category.
