New Saturday slot for S4C's live Welsh Premier League matches
14 May 2015
S4C's flagship football programme Sgorio will broadcast live Welsh Premier League matches early on Saturday evenings from next season onwards.
Following discussions with the Welsh Premier League, the live Sgorio match will now kick off at 5.15pm on Saturdays.
The flagship football programme, which includes live matches from the Welsh Premier League, The Welsh Cup and The Word Cup, will kick off on Saturday evenings from Saturday 22 August at the start of the 2015/16 season.
The Sgorio programme will start at 4.45, with sports news and results service and a match preview.
The Sgorio highlights show, which features La Liga as well as Welsh football club and cup action, will remain in its 6.30pm slot on Mondays.
S4C's Sports Editor, Sue Butler said, "S4C is delighted to be able to support Welsh football. We have worked with the FAW and the Welsh Premier League to develop coverage of this fantastic competition and we're excited at the prospect of putting our national club football competition at the heart of the Saturday evening schedule. Giving a deserved national platform to domestic Welsh football contributes to the future success of the game, as well as offering a much valued ingredient to the mix of programming we have on S4C."
FAW Chief Executive Jonathan Ford said, "The FAW welcomes this latest development and believes that it will further enhance the profile of our National League. We are very grateful to S4C for their continued support for Welsh domestic football and are confident that this new Saturday evening slot will attract new supporters to the Welsh Premier League."
English soundtrack will be available for the live coverage via the red button on Sky, Freeview or Virgin Media. Freesat viewers should use the audio selection option. English subtitles will also be available.
The Sgorio programmes are produced by Rondo Media for S4C. Sgorio is one of S4C's longest-running series, having been on air since 1988. The company has been broadcasting Welsh Premier League coverage for S4C since 2008.
