S4C this week will mark the centenary of the birth of celebrated Welsh author and poet T Llew Jones; starting tonight, Tuesday 6 October at 9.30, with a new revealing documentary, T Llew Jones, presented by Beti George.

S4C has worked closely with the Centenary Celebrations Committee - Pwyllgor Dathlu Canmlwyddiant T Llew Jones – to prepare the programmes and the channel appreciates the Committee's support in including S4C as part of a year of the celebrations across Wales.

Dafydd Rhys, S4C Director of Content and Broadcasting, says; "I would like to congratulate the committee on all the events taking place this year. We were glad to be able to work closely with them as we prepared our schedule of programmes, in order to include an event of national significance on the national TV channel.

"Among the programmes is the documentary which will shine new light on the work and life of T Llew Jones, and I look forward to seeing the film Tân ar y Comin once again, which I hope will inspire people of all ages to re-visit his novels."

In the new revealing documentary, T Llew Jones, presented by Beti George to be broadcast tonight, 6 October 9.30, we will get to know the man behind the public figure. Beti George chats to a number of people who remember T Llew as a motivational teacher and headmaster and a talented chess player and cricketer as well as an author who inspired so many.

On Saturday 10 October at 7.30, enjoy the film adaption of one T Llew Jones' classic novels, Tân ar y Comin (1994) which tells the tale of a young gypsy called Tim Bosworth. The film is followed by a BBC archive programme at 9.20, Dilyn Afon Cletwr: T Llew Jones, as we take a walk with T Llew Jones along the River Cletwr.

Then on Sunday 11 October at 7.00, the day of the centenary of his birth, Nia Roberts presents a special edition of the spiritual series Dechrau Canu Dechrau Canmol, with congregational singing from Tabernacle Chapel, Whitland where his grandson Guto Llewellyn is minister.

As well as this week's programmes, during the summer S4C marked the centenary with a treasure hunt for children at the National Eisteddfod. S4C's popular children's character, pirate Ben Dant, encouraged youngsters to join in the hunt, following in the footsteps of T Llew's infamous heroes such as the pirate Barti Ddu, highwayman Twm Sion Cati and the smuggler Sion Cwilt.
