Expect a racket in Gwynedd next week as hundreds of youngsters from all corners of the county come together to enjoy a special fun filled show - Sioe Arbennig Tag a Rimbojam – arranged by S4C, the Urdd, Bardd Plant Cymru (Children's Poet Laureate) as part of Gwynedd Council's Welsh Language Charter for primary schools.
From Monday until Wednesday, 18-20 January, year 5 and 6 pupils from schools all over Gwynedd will come together to celebrate the Welsh language in four special shows. Each and every primary school in the county is invited, and hundreds of children are expected to raise the roof:
Monday, 18 January: two shows in Caernarfon Tennis Centre
Tuesday, 19 January: Glan Wnion Leisure Centre, Dolgellau
Wednesday, 20 January: Greenacres Holiday Park, Morfa Bychan
Presenters of the S4C series Tag, Mari Lovgreen and Owain Williams, will lead the mayhem. DJ Sâl from the comedy show Ysbyty Hospital will be spinning his tunes to get everyone dancing. The Children's Poet Laureate, presenter of Stwnsh game show Pyramid, Anni Llŷn will prove that poetry is far from boring. And the children can sing along to their favourite songs in the Urdd's mass karaoke Rimbojam!
Mari Lovgreen, who comes from Caernarfon says; "Watch out Gwynedd! We're going to make enough noise to shake Snowdonia. This will be a school day to remember, believe you me, with games, songs, poetry and laughter - all in Welsh!"
The four shows, Sioe Arbennig Tag a Rimbojam, are among a number of events held as part of Gwynedd Council's Welsh Language Charter. The Charter aims to inspire every child in Gwynedd to use the Welsh language in their everyday lives. Follow @SiarterIaith to find out more. S4C, and the Stwnsh service for 7-13 year olds, are proud to collaborate on the shows and for Tag presenter Mari and Owain to lead the events. Encouraging everyone to use their Welsh is an integral part of the Welsh language TV channel's aims, starting with the youngest viewers.
Sioned Wyn Roberts, S4C Content Commissioner for Children, explains why children's programmes are so important to preserving the future of the Welsh language;
"There's no doubt that Stwnsh's main aim is to entertain. But these programmes contribute hugely to the future of the Welsh language. Without the programmes, apps, shows and bonus digital content on the S+ website, which are all part of Stwnsh's wide and varied service, the opportunities for children to engage with the Welsh language outside the classroom would be vastly reduced.
"I know that this is also the aim of our partners – Gwynedd Council, the Urdd, Bardd Plant Cymru – so it's great that we can all work together like this to create such a significant event, which brings all of Gwynedd's primary schools together to celebrate their language."
