S4C Director of Content and Broadcasting, Dafydd Rhys, has hailed the contribution of the talented, popular cameraman Andrew Davies, after losing his brave battle against cancer.
Carmarthenshire cameraman Andrew Davies, aged 52, originally of Llanpumsaint, had worked on a wide raft of S4C programmes and series over four decades.
A familiar figure in Llandeilo, where he and his wife Llio Silyn Davies had brought up their four children, they had recently moved to Ammanford.
They were well known in Carmarthen too as the family has ran the Welsh bookshop, Siop y Pentan, in the county town for a number of years. His wife Llio is a well-known actress and drama director.
Nicknamed Andrew ‘Pwmps’ Davies, his parents ran the petrol station in Llanpumsaint for many years and he worked as a sound technician before becoming a cameraman.
S4C Director of Content and Broadcasting, Dafydd Rhys said; “Andrew was a key figure in a range of S4C series from almost the very beginning of S4C. He worked on a range of genres, in particular documentaries and children’s programmes, and had a natural interest in people and an instinct for a good story.
“His enthusiasm and creativity as a cameraman inspired a generation of people to work in the film and TV industry. He will be a great loss to the creative industries and the close-knit local community. We offer our deepest condolences to his family at this difficult time.”
