There is international acclaim once again this year for S4C content at the 2016 New York International Film and Television awards with four programmes shortlisted for a prize.

Nominated for a Childrens/Youth Program award is Llond Ceg, produced by Green Bay Media, which tackles issues which can trouble young people. The film about climbers Eric Jones and Ioan Doyle, Patagonia Eric Jones ac Ioan Doyle by Boom Cymru, is nominated in the Sports & Recreation category.

Drama Y Gwyll/Hinterland is nominated for a Crime Drama award, for the second series which was first broadcast on S4C in autumn 2015. The series was produced by Fiction Factory and financed by broadcast partners S4C and BBC Cymru Wales, together with all3media International, Tinopolis and Welsh Business Finance.

And nominated in the National/International Affairs category is the documentary Dagrau o Waed: Rhyfel Corea a co-production between S4C, Awen Media and JTV in Korea. This is one of several programmes made as part of a partnership with Jenonju Television.

The four nominations is a source of great pride for S4C, says Director of Content and Broadcasting, Dafydd Rhys, and it reflects the channel's ambition to seek out opportunities to showcase content across the world and to work in partnership with international companies.

Dafydd Rhys, S4C Director of Content and Broadcasting says; "This year's nominations, the highest number yet for S4C at the New York International Film and Television awards, is a source of great pride and is a credit to the extremely talented and creative production sector in Wales.

"The opportunities to celebrate Welsh content on an international stage and to work with companies across the globe are particularly important for S4C. Co-productions not only enable us to target more ambitious projects, we would not otherwise be able to afford, but also raise the profile of S4C, Wales and the Welsh language across the world. Nominations for international awards such as these are the crowning glory. Congratulations to everyone on the nominations."

Another two programmes made in conjunction with JTV in Korea is the new documentary Philip Jones Griffiths: Ffotograffydd Rhyfel Fietnam (Rondo Media) on S4C Sunday 28 February 9.00pm, and Gohebwyr: John Hardy about the Korean War, also by Rondo Media and broadcast in 2015. Following the success of these project, and the nomination for Dagrau o Waed: Rhyfel Corea, there are ambitious plans to expand on this valued relationship between S4C and JTV.

S4C has proven success at the New York International Film and Television awards in recent years. In 2015, Adam Price a Streic y Glowyr (Tinopolis) won a Bronze Medal and there was a Silver Medal for Gwirionedd y Galon: Dr John Davies (Telesgop). In 2014, the series Taith Fawr y Dyn Bach (Cwmni Da) won Silver and Karen (Cwmni Da) took a Bronze Medal. And, in 2013, a Gold Medal was awarded to the documentary Fy Chwaer a Fi (Bulb Films, Part of Boom Cymru).

There's hope for even more success this year when the 2016 New York International Film and Television awards are held in Las Vegas on 19 April, 2016.
