Y Gwyll/Hinterland wins big in the USA - among four New York Awards for S4C

 The detective crime series Y Gwyll/Hinterland has won the top award at the 2016 New York International Film and Television awards.

The Grand Award is given to a select group of the highest scoring programmes from among all the entries – and among the top scorers this year is Y Gwyll/Hinterland.

Three productions have been chosen for the Grand Award this year, they are; Y Gwyll, 'Earth is Yours' (BBC Worldwide / Singapore), and 'The Roosevelts: An Intimate History' (PBS / USA).

Fiction Factory-produced Y Gwyll also won a Gold Medal in the Crime Drama category.

The news will be welcomed in Ceredigion where the cast and crew are currently filming the third series, to be broadcast first on S4C in the autumn and by BBC Wales at a later date.

The Grand Award and Gold Medal crowned a very successful night for S4C with two further Silver and Bronze Medals awarded to Welsh language content. The ceremony was held in Las Vegas on Tuesday, 19 April and received entries from 50 countries.

The Silver Medal went to the Boom Cymru documentary film, Patagonia Eric Jones ac Ioan Doyle in the Sports and Recreational category. The film followed the two rock climbers from Gwynedd on a journey to the Argentine province.

The documentary Dagrau o Waed: Rhyfel Corea won the Bronze Medal in the National / International Affairs category. The documentary is a co-production between S4C, Awen Media and JTV in Korea. It is one of several programmes made as part of a partnership with Jenonju Television and tells the story of two soldiers who fought during the Korean War - Meirion Davies from Ammanford and Young-Bok Yoo from South Korea.

Also nominated in the awards was the Green Bay media youth series, Llond Ceg who has received the commendation of a Finalists Certificate.

S4C Director of Content, Dafydd Rhys, is overjoyed with this year's success at the awards. Dafydd Rhys says, "This is the most successful awards in recent years for S4C content at the New York International Film and Television awards and we congratulate everyone on their medals. Once again the talent and creativity of the production sector has flown the flag for Wales on the international stage bringing praise for both Wales and the excellent programmes made here. Well done everyone."

S4C has enjoyed success at the New York International Film and Television Awards in recent years. In 2015, Adam Price a Streic y Glowyr (Tinopolis) won a Bronze Medal and there was a Silver Medal for Gwirionedd y Galon: Dr John Davies (Telesgop). In 2014, the series Taith Fawr y Dyn Bach (Cwmni Da) won Silver and Karen (Cwmni Da) took a Bronze Medal. And, in 2013, a Gold Medal was awarded to the documentary Fy Chwaer a Fi (Bulb Films, Part of Boom Cymru).
