30,000 boys and girls across Wales are encouraged to become film writers, directors and producers and to shoot their own short film in a challenge set by S4C.

Wales' national broadcaster has teamed up with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Wales in a film-making competition and to set the organisation's 30,000 members in Wales the challenge of creating a short film for the S4C website on the theme of "Young, Welsh and …".

They are also in with the chance of winning £500 for their own Boys and Girls Club branch, in a public vote on the S4C website.

S4C are looking for original, innovative and energetic films, says Gwyn Williams, Director of Communications at S4C;

"I'm really looking forward to seeing the films, and to see what the youngsters come up with as an ending for the sentence "Young, Welsh and…". As they make their film I encourage them to be original, ambitious and to think big! It will be an honour to show some of the films on the S4C website and to award the winner with the £500 for their Club. Best of luck to them all."

As they set about making their film, the youngsters will be given advice and taught new skills to shoot and edit their films using simple equipment available on their smart phones.

Joff Carroll, Chief Executive of Boys' and Girls' Clubs of Wales said; "This is a great project and I am sure young people will provide some outstanding films. Young people will benefit from gaining new skills in video editing whilst having fun telling their story."

All 30,000 members of the Boys' and Girls' Clubs in Wales are welcome to take part. All they need is an original idea and plenty of enthusiasm to create a film on the theme of "Young, Welsh and …".

There are two categories; ages 8-15 and 16-25 year olds. Each film should be between 1.5 to 3 minutes long and must include, but not necessarily made entirely in, the Welsh language.

After all entries are received a shortlist will be chosen by a panel of judges and loaded on to the S4C website. It will then be down to the public to vote for the winner of the £500 for their Club.
