Tribute to talented actor and storyteller – J.O. Roberts

S4C has paid tribute to J.O. Roberts following the news today of his death, Wednesday 20 July 2016.
The actor from Anglesey was known for his performances in a number of notable drama productions over the years, on stage and screen. Among them are his portrayals of several Welsh heroes – including Owain Glyndŵr in a TV film in 1983.
Among his other S4C credits are his role as a spy in the series Cysgodion Gdansk (1987); starring opposite Sian Phillips in Mae Hi'n Wyllt Mr Borrow (1984); his take on humorous tales of rural life Hufen a Moch Bach (1983-1988); the film Branwen (1994); and the role of Harri Vaughan in the series Lleifior in 1993 and 1995. He also performed in numerous theatre productions.
In tribute, Huw Jones S4C Authority Chairman, says;
"J.O. Roberts was the voice which set the standard in Welsh language broadcasting for many years on television and radio. He bridged the tradition of reciting with the art of professional acting and represented the very best of both traditions.
"He starred in numerous drama series and films during the 1980s and 1990s with his strong personality shining through. He looked the part, and looked and sounded like a star."
And there will be an opportunity to look back at J.O. Roberts' life and career in the 1998 programme Portreadau which is to be shown again in tribute on Sunday 24 July 7.30.
